On Sunday, the Delhi Police talked about a horrific case from Anand Parbat in Central Delhi. A 15 year old teenager was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing a four year old boy. The horrifying crime has shook the whole area and generated more worries about how many young people are getting involved in violent acts.
On September 17 the victims mother filed a complaint which is when the story initially came to light. She told the authorities that her son had come home from school at 6:30 PM and was playing outside. She saw that the boy was gone after a little while. The family looked in the nearby roads and other areas but when they could not find him, they went straight to the police who opened a kidnapping case and started looking into it. During the investigation, CCTV footage from the area was gathered.
The pictures showed the missing child with a 15 year old male, the person who complained said that he was her neighbor. Based on this lead the police apprehended the teenager and began questioning him which quickly revealed a horrible sequence of events surrounding the disappearance. The police say that the young person is a school dropout who only went to school until Class 10.
He lived in the same premises as the victims family, with both families running their own shops there. Investigators also found out that the two families had fought in the past which made things tense and hostile. The initial trigger came a few days earlier when the teenager allegedly grabbed the landlords motorcycle and abandoned it in another region. When the landlord found out through the victims mother, he shouted the youngster and his father too punished him.
This left the juvenile ashamed and enraged and he began planning retribution against the neighbours family. On the day of the crime the accused noticed the four year old playing near his home after coming from tution. He lured the child away and took him to the bush region of Ramjas Park. At the remote site, he allegedly pushed the boy from a cliff around 30 feet high, causing the toddler to fall onto the shrubs and ground below.
Not stopping there the accused is reported to have taken up a stone and struck the boy with the intent to kill him. After leaving the youngster badly injured the teenager returned home as though nothing had occurred. Based on the boys confession during interrogation the police hurried to the area and managed to rescue the victim who was eventually admitted to a hospital. However, despite receiving medical attention the four year old died due to his injuries on Saturday evening. With the victims death the police added murder charges to the already reported case of kidnapping. The horrible occurrence has greatly unsettled the people of the neighborhood.
Many expressed disbelief over the the idea that such a small youngster could conduct such a cruel crime. Experts have also pointed out that increased youth crimes reflect wider concerns such as exposure to violence, family disputes and lack of emotional direction and accessible triggers for revenge. The Delhi Police have stated that the inquiry is still underway and that the incident will be dealt with strictly under the provisions of the law including the Juvenile Justice Act.
