Turbulence Causes Sudden Drop During Flight
An Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi hit turbulence while cruising on Tuesday, causing the plane to drop suddenly by about 300 feet. The abrupt dip left around 14 people passengers and crew hurt.
Even with the scare, the pilots landed the plane safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Medical teams waited on the ground, ready to help anyone injured.
The flight, AI2379, was scheduled to touch down in Delhi around 11:15 am. During the cruise, the pilot reported that sudden turbulence probably a strong updraft or downdraft caused the altitude drop.
Some on board got banged up in the jolt. Initial reports said one crew member was hurt badly and a few passengers had minor injuries. Later, airport officials confirmed that about 10 passengers and four crew members reported injuries.
Injured Passengers Taken for Medical Check Ups
After the safe landing, everyone got off the plane without any problems. Those who were hurt went straight to the airport’s medical facility for check-ups and treatment.
Air India put out a statement confirming the incident: “Flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on 4 August, experienced a brief in flight turbulence related event during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude.” The airline said the plane did land safely, and everyone disembarked without issues.
They added, “No serious injuries as of now. A small number of passengers and crew with minor injuries have been taken to the airport’s medical facility for precautionary examination and care by Air India’s team and medical staff.”
Air India Assures Full Support During Investigation
Air India also said safety comes first, and they are supporting those affected while working with authorities on the investigation.
Officials at the airport said anyone who needed attention was moved to the medical area and is being looked after. Injuries mostly looked minor, but some people might end up going to a hospital for a closer check or extra treatment. The exact details of the injuries had not been released yet.
